HOBART, Wis. (NBC 26) — A man died after shooting himself following a standoff with police, authorities said.
According to a statement from Hobart-Lawrence Police Department, officers responded to the 700 block of Centerline Drive, in the Village of Hobart for a domestic disturbance. According to police, a 25-year-old woman told authorities that her boyfriend was threatening to kill her.
Police said the woman reported her boyfriend fired a round off using his handgun. Police then said the woman told them she was able to leave the residence with minor injuries.
Officers tried to make contact with the suspect, but he didn't respond. Attempts to reach the suspect were unsuccessful. Police said the situation became a large-scale law enforcement incident that was resolved later in the day. Residents were notified to shelter in place.
Police said they used a drone and found the suspect in a wooded area. Police said the suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Jeffery Patnode.
