GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- About half of the employees at PMI Entertainment Group in Green Bay are being laid off. The company said it's mostly due to being shut down since March, when the WIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament was cut short, and cancelled concerts. The company currently employs 60 people. The layoff will go into effect July 1st.
But even with a small team, the company who provides venue, sports, and entertainment management at places like the Resch Center and Meyer Theater, helps bring about 1 million people to the area each year.
Leaders said this decision to layoff employees, was a tough to make.
“Our industry, the entertainment industry, is the hardest hit because while maybe restaurants and other service industries are slowly coming back or quit and then opened for take out for a small degree, our business is essentially shutdown,” explained Terry Charles, Senior Corporate Communications Manager PMI Entertainment.
However, Charles said they're looking toward the future. They're hoping to start opening back up with Meyer Theater in July. Their next two scheduled events follow at the Resch Center with Cher in September and the Foo Fighters in October.
