FOND DU LAC, Wis. (NBC 26) -- A five-year-old was killed after being hit by a vehicle in a parking lot at a Fond Du Lac boat launch, according to the Fond Du Lac Police Department.
Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, first responders were called to the Lake Side Park West located off of Howard Litscher Drive for a report of a 5-year-old boy who was struck in the parking lot by a vehicle, according to a news release.
Officers attempted life-saving measures on the child. The boy was rushed to St. Agnes Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police released more information Wednesday afternoon on the child's death. Police said 5-year-old Jayden Kaufman was with his mother while she was meeting with friends at Lakeside Park West in a parking lot north of the boat launch area.
Police said Jayden was sitting on the pavement playing when he was run over by a 2002 GMC Sierra pick-up-truck driven by a 20-year-old Fond du Lac man. Police said the man was in the process of leaving the parking lot as he struck the boy.
The accident remains under active investigation.
