SUAMICO, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Five people at Bay Port High School have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a message sent to families and staff, the Howard-Suamico School District says officials were notified of the five positive cases at Bay Port High School by the HSSD COVID-19 hotline.

According to the district, the individuals who tested positive for the virus have had minimal close contact with other students and staff.

The district says it's actively working with the Brown County Health Department to "quickly identify, notify, and quarantine any students or staff who may have come into close contact and who may be at risk of getting sick."

The school says officials are also cleaning and disinfecting the school on a daily basis. The message says those who have had close contact with those who have positive cases of COVID-19 have already been notified directly by a school nurse.

If families are contacted by the Brown County Health Department, they are asked to please assist health officials as they work to investigate and control COVID-19 in the community.
