TOWN OF MAINE (NBC 26) — Three people were hurt in a crash Monday night in Outagamie County. Deputies said the driver failed to curve with the road and they ended up hitting a tree.

The Sheriff's Office said it happened around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 187 north of Newland Road.

Deputies had to extricate the 18-year-old male driver and 19-year-old male front passenger. They were immediately taken to the hospital with severe injuries, and are listed in critical condition but stable. A 17-year-old male passenger in the backseat had minor injuries and was released to his family.

The initial investigation reports they were driving at a high rate of speed and failed to curve with the road. They then left the roadway and hit a tree in a yard next to them. Deputies add controlled substances also appear to be a factor, but it's still under investigation.
