LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Tuesday, December 14, LEX 18 and University of Kentucky Athletics joined together to host a “Kentucky United Tornado Disaster Relief Telethon." All proceeds from the telethon went to the American Red Cross to benefit victims of the tornadoes that hit western Kentucky.
Monetary donations kept rolling in until December 31. For 17 days, Kentuckians donated bringing the relief fund total to $5,047,841.
LEX 18's Nancy Cox and Bill Meck hosted the telethon on Tuesday, December 14 from the Kroger Field Recruiting Room sharing live spots with UK coaches and athletes throughout the event.
"We will continue to find ways to help rebuild, restore, heal and return stronger than before," said Mitch Barnhart, UK Director of Athletics. "Our hearts extend this hope and promise to the people of Western Kentucky.”
