Brown County prosecutors have filed formal 1st Degree Homicide charges against Jacob Cayer. The 26-year-old was booked earlier this month in connection with the stabbing deaths of Sabrina Teague and her mother Heesun Teague. A third person was injured in the incident.
According to the criminal complaint, the night of June 7, 2016 started with a fight between Jacob Cayer and his dad.
From there, Cayer headed to his ex-girlfriend's house in Hobart, forcing his way into the home through a basement window, police said.
What exactly happened next is still unknown, but when police arrived at the house, they found Heesun Teague dead in a bathtub. She died from stab wounds and blunt force trauma, according to the criminal complaint.
Court documents also said her daughter, Sabrina Teague, was found dead in the backyard. Efforts to save her failed.
The third victim, Joel Kennedy, had locked himself in a room and called 911. He later told police he was Sabrina's boyfriend.
Kennedy said Cayer attacked him and Sabrina, stabbing them, before Kennedy hit Cayer in the head with a shovel.
Police later found a backpack near the house filled with zip ties, knives, rope and duct tape, the criminal complaint said.
Police found Cayer hiding in a wooded area behind the home thanks to their K9. When police asked him to put his hands in the air because he might have a knife, he responded, "I don't have the knife, I left it in the house," according to the criminal complaint.
Later, Cayer told police he didn't remember the incident, but then gave details, saying about Sabrina, "I had to attack her more than once."
Cayer faces six charges: two counts of first degree intentional homicide, one count attempted first degree intentional homicide, two counts of bail jumping, and one burglary count.
Cayer is scheduled to appear in Brown County court on Monday for a competency hearing.
