Green Bay Packers fans pass tradition down from generation to generation

For 99 years, the Green Bay Packers have taken the field to represent the City of Green Bay. The team is the oldest in the NFL to have the same name in the same place. Part of that is because families pass on the tradition.

Fans piled into Lambeau Field Saturday to see the green and gold, as they've done for decades.

"It is pretty incredible to be able to spend such an awesome night with your family and be able to make some really great memories around the packers," said Heather Franzini.

For 100 seasons the Packers have given Green Bay area fans a reason to celebrate and that's why they say, they keep passing the tradition down from generation to generation."

"Our kids and grandkids are all packers fans so we're doing a family vacation. This is a perfect opportunity to come over," said Tim Franzini.

For the Franzini family, the Packers are a way of life.

"I come from a family that had season tickets and took in a lot of games. Our boys have been able to experience that and now the grandkids are experiencing the tradition," said Tim.

The Packers have 13 championships and are the only publicly owned team owned in the NFL, meaning community involvement is in its DNA.

"I don't know any other NFL team that has a family night like this where it's basically like a home football game. The feeling is awesome. It's super family friendly," said Heather.

The packers hope days like Family Night keep that strong family tradition of the green and gold alive for another 100 seasons.

The reason the Packers are publically ownedc is because the team needed to sell shares in its infancy to stay in business.

The team has offered shares more recently, in 1997 and 2011, in part, to help renovate Lambeau Field.
