MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers says he offers “no advice” to Supreme Court candidate Lisa Neubauer, who is considering calling for a recount after coming up about 6,000 votes short of Brian Hagedorn.
Evers told reporters Friday that whether Neubauer asks for a recount is up to her, but he’s not saying what he thinks she should do.
Neubauer had the support of liberals in Tuesday’s election. Hagedorn was backed by conservatives.
Hagedorn’s lead was about half a percentage point, based on unofficial results. He has declared himself the winner, but Neubauer is not conceding. She’s also not said whether she will seek a recount.
Counties began canvassing the vote on Thursday.
Evers called the 26 percent turnout “disheartening” and says more people “of all stripes” should vote.
