Several Milwaukee leaders are expected to denounce rapper Kayne West's bid for president.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and Milwaukee Common Council President Cavalier Johnson are expected to hold a press conference Thursday afternoon to denounce what they're calling a "cynical ploy" by the Republican Party to help get Kanye West on to voter's ballots in Wisconsin.
This, following news Tuesday that West, along with four other independent candidates had filed paperwork with the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
According to NBC news, Kanye has also submitted petitions to make the ballot in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Vermont and West Virginia.
West's efforts so far have been plagued by Twitter rants, mental health concerns, missed deadlines, and faulty filings.
His access to any ballot, including in Wisconsin, still hinging on signature verification.
Under Wisconsin law, independent presidential candidates can get on the ballot by filing a minimum of 2,000 valid signatures of Wisconsin electors on nomination papers, as well as a Declaration of Candidacy form for both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The WEC said on Tuesday that staff will be reviewing the petitions in the coming days to determine sufficiency and that the candidates meet all qualifications to get on the ballot.
So far, none of the independent candidates have been approved for the ballot in November's election.
