GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Election day is fast approaching, and voters are taking advantage of the opportunity days before election day. Many are stopping by city hall to drop off ballots.
"We thought this was the best way to do it this year," said David Campshure, a voter from green Bay. "We usually vote in-person, but with COVID and everything, we thought this was the best way."
The election drop box at City Hall is monitored by surveillance camera, and twice a day, someone from the clerk's office picks up the ballots and hangs on to them for election day.
"They are secured and monitored closely by us," said Celestine Jeffreys, the Chief of Staff to the city. "We are also in the process of adding more."
This method of voting gives people the option of not sending their ballots back in the mail. The City of Green Bay does not envision any issues with the post office, but they say anyone who drops a ballot off at the box will have their vote count on election day.
"This way I know it counts, and that is important to me," Campshure said. "I know this way my voice is heard and I am at a far less risk of getting COVID than heading to the polls."
