MADISON (NBC 26) — Only 116 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Wisconsin on Monday - that's the lowest number in more than a year.

There were no new deaths for the second day in a row Monday. There are now fewer than 7,000 active cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin.

On the vaccine front, Door County is leading the way with over 60% of eligible residents receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.

In Brown County, about 45% have gotten a shot. It's a little lower in Outagamie County at 44%. In Calumet County, it's just over 40%.

“Great news is when you look at the seven day rolling average that number continues to tick down as we’ve been moving along the last few weeks. A lot of this with almost certainly is due to the number of people that have been vaccinated so far,” said Dr. Brad Burmeister, an emergency physician at Bellin Health.

He said as we look closely to the numbers, Monday's data may not show the full picture. However, he says the good news is in the seven day average.

"For pretty much as year now Mondays were always exciting days because it made us feel like we were doing great as a community. So Mondays always had lower numbers than pretty much the rest of the week and that's partly due because some of the drive through testing sites or routine testing that is done is not done in the weekends and not done on Sundays. But the great news is that when you look at the seven day average that number seems to tick down," Dr. Burmeister said.
