Wisconsin sees new record-breaking COVID-19 cases in a day

Wisconsin health officials said another 1,165 people have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Saturday afternoon.

Saturday is the highest number of positive cases in a day, breaking the previous record of 1,117 on July 21 of this year.

The state Department of Health Services (DHS) said almost 9% of the over 13,000 tests came back positive Saturday. The total number of people in Wisconsin who have tested positive is 59,933.

According to the DHS, a little over 49,000 people are marked as "recovered" from coronavirus. Approximately 9,636 cases are still considered "active" in Wisconsin.

As of Saturday, 996 people in Wisconsin have died in relation to the virus. This is six more deaths than Friday.

Health officials said 50 more people with the virus were hospitalized. Over 8% of people who tested positive for the virus have been hospitalized.
