MADISON (NBC 26) -- Wisconsin health officials reported a spike in the number of new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
The latest data showed 1,498 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Friday. That's the largest number of new cases reported in a single day since state health officials began tracking the virus back in March.
Additionally, the percent positive rate, the rate of coronavirus tests returning a positive result, jumped to 12.8%.
However, according to DHS, the reason for the high case count is an issue with reporting results the last few days. They are advising people to watch the 7-day average, which is currently over 700. The recovery rate for COVID-19 in Wisconsin is at 88%.
Seven more people died Friday from the virus, bringing the state's death toll to 1,153.
