BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Brown County officials reported Tuesday that a new center testing for coronavirus will open in Green Bay. Starting at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Casa ALBA Melanie center will serve as a second testing site.
The county now has 1,540 cases of coronavirus, an increase of 99 cases from the number reported on Monday. The Oneida Nation is reporting 12 cases. Additionally, officials report five more people in the county have died from the virus, bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths in Brown County to 11.
43 people have been hospitalized due to the virus. 178 people are out of isolation, meaning they no longer pose a threat of spreading the virus.
A community testing site at the Resch Center has now tested more than 1,000 people, health officials say. If people wish to get tested, officials ask people to schedule an appointment. People wanting a test must also have at least one symptom as displayed on the Brown County Health Department's website: stayhealthybc.com.
Results from the community testing sites take 5 to 7 days, according to health officials. The first numbers from those tests are expected to be reported on Thursday.
This new information comes as a meat packing plant in Green Bay reopens Tuesday after closing last month over concerns about the virus. A cluster of cases had previously been reported at JBS. Brown County health officials said the county and the CDC toured JBS on Monday and said conditions were good to re-open.
