PULASKI, Wis. (NBC 26) -- A Pulaski assisted living facility announced it had its first case of coronavirus earlier this week.
President for Counrty Villa Assisted Living Chad Reader said the case was confirmed on April 27. He said they quickly isolated residents in their rooms to prevent further spread of the virus. It was not said if the case was from a resident or staff member.
"On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, all residents and employees received COVID-19 tests," Reader says. "We also worked with Prevea Health and PRN Health to acquire assistance in order to fill-in for any staff members who were ill. If an employee tested positive for COVID-19, they were immediately sent home. Employees who tested negative for COVID-19, but were still not feeling well, were asked to remain until a replacement for them could be secured before going home so that we could continue to deliver the services our residents require and that their loved ones expect from us."
Reader said the facility had been closed since March 12. Even mail delivered to the facility was kept in a separate space where it was disinfected before being brought into the building.
Reader said they have taken several steps to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of their residents and staff. He explained they’ll continue working with state and local health officials during the pandemic.
In the northeast part of Wisconsin, there are currently 11 long-term care facilities being investigated for outbreaks. The state did not confirm if the County Villa Assisted Living facility is one of those. State-wide, there are 93 long-term care facilities under investigation.
