GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Freedom House in Green Bay will welcome volunteers and donations back on June first. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, volunteers were no longer allowed at the Freedom House and donation drop offs had to be put on pause. The Freedom House President, Jessica Diederich says she is so excited to bring the volunteers back because they're the back bone of the shelter and the donations are always put to good use and the guests are so incredibly grateful.

"We run 100% on donations so when we need items here at the shelter they;re donated from the community," said Diederich.

There are some items the shelter is in desperate need of. Those items include diapers, disinfecting spray and wipes along with garbage bags.

Diederich says being able to bring the volunteers back is such wonderful news because they help with so much including meals and sorting donations, but they also bring such encouragement and happiness to the guests at the Freedom House.

This time has been tough and challenging but that hasn't stopped the community from going above and beyond as well. Republic Chophouse in Green Bay has found several ways to give back even when they had to unfortunately close their doors.

Republic Chophouse Chefs and staff donated several items that the shelter desperately needed. They also cooked meals and helped share recipes to utilize with the items already in the pantry.
