DOOR COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Fireworks and other Fourth of July celebrations have been canceled this year across Door County.

This is the latest cancellation of a summer event due to concerns of the coronavirus pandemic.

The cancellations include fireworks celebrations in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Sturgeon Bay, Maplewood, and Gills Rock, as well as parades in Baileys Harbor and Egg Harbor, and Freedom Fest on July 11 in Sister Bay.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision for our communities to reach," organizers said in a statement issued Tuesday. "But in a time of social distancing, we can’t responsibly encourage thousands of people to congregate in environments that are impossible to police and therefore are following the guidelines laid out for 'outdoor events' by the WEDC."

Organizers said they are looking ahead to 2021.
