As new guidelines are released for Wisconsin schools, coronavirus cases continue to climb

MADISON (NBC 26) -- Wisconsin reported 740 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, along with seven new deaths.

The new numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services comes as state health officials release new guidelines for school districts to follow in preventing and handling COVID-19 outbreaks.

There is now a total of 68,233 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin, with more than 86% of those cases listed as recovered. There are now 8,072 active cases in the state.

The rate of coronavirus tests returning a positive result in Wisconsin ticked up slightly on Thursday to 7.5%. 9,131 coronavirus tests came back negative on Thursday.

With seven newly-reported deaths, DHS now reports the state's death total related to coronavirus is now at 1,067.
