Classes are canceled at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc tomorrow, due to a ceiling collapsing at the school.

The Superintendent of the Manitowoc School District, Mark Holzman shared with NBC26 this email which was sent to families this evening.

"Good afternoon awesome Ships families,

The purpose of this message is to inform you that there will be no school for students at Lincoln High School tomorrow Thursday, September 6, 2018.  Today at approximately 2:30 p.m. a ceiling in one of our third floor classrooms collapsed.  No students or staff were in the room at the time and there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

As a precaution, immediately following the ceiling failure, staff and students moved from the third floor classrooms to other locations in the building.

Because the safety and welfare of all students and staff are of utmost importance, we have scheduled an engineer to come Thursday to inspect the ceilings in adjacent classrooms.

All afterschool athletic practices and contests will occur Thursday as scheduled, and we fully expect to welcome students and staff back to a regularly scheduled school day on Friday, September 7, 2018.

We will send you an email update tomorrow afternoon."

The cause of the collapse has not been released.
