Blessings in a Backpack

Posted
Every weekend during the 2016-2017 school year, more than 50 students who are part of Lincoln Elementary School's 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school program, receive a bag full of food.

It's all part of the Blessings in a Backpack program, helping children from low income families not go hungry.

Volunteers from the school district,  LaForce, and Green Bay mayor Jim Schmitt, all helped pack the bags kids got to take home.

"I think it's important that we as a community know that there are kids that don't have the resources for their families to eat healthy all weekend and it's important that this food as you see it's healthy nutritional food they don't have to eat a lot of it to get a lot of energy," said Schmitt.

Lincoln School leaders have started a Go Fund Me page because they only have enough funding for their program through November. They're hoping to raise more money to keep the program going all year long.
