GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- It is the last day of summer for most in Northeast Wisconsin. On September 1st, students will return to school, but most wont physically return to class - they will begin the year online.

"We are excited and ready to go," said Dana Tingley, whose children are entering several different grades. "We re-decorated our entire basement to be a classroom, so it resembles as close to a classroom as you can get."

Cases of coronavirus continue to climb in Wisconsin. Therefore, leaving most districts having to go with online teaching to start the year. Tingley says she would have preferred in person classes, but realizes the pandemic is still a big problem.

"It is not going to be the same," she said. "But right now it is all about embracing a new normal. I think we are as set up as we can be.

In her basement, each of her children have their own desk that looks like one that would be in a classroom. Each children has enough notebooks, pens and utensils for class. Plus they all have tablets to interact with their teachers.

"We are trying to treat this like they are actually in school," she said. "This is not a place where they hang out. This is a place where they work."

The Green Bay Area Public School District says they are keeping a close eye on how things progress tomorrow to see what changes need to be made."

"We are going in tomorrow feeling as prepared as we possibility can," said Kristina Shelton, the Vice President of the board. "We know things will likely have to shift and change as the school year moves forward."
