MENASHA — The Wisconsin DOJ has released new information on the police shooting that happened Tuesday in Menasha.
Authorities identified the man shot by police as 43 year-old Shawn D. Blowers of Menasha. The officer who shot him has been identified as Neenah Police Investigator Christopher Gorden. The Wisconsin Department of Justice says Gorden has been a law enforcement officer for 11 years, and was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
Police say the shooting happened as officers were serving a search warrant regarding an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. The search warrant was being carried out at apartment in Menasha. The Wisconsin DOJ says Blowers was the subject of the investigation.
Authorities say during the investigation, Shawn Blowers got a knife and confronted officers. He was then shot. Authorities say they tried to perform life-saving procedures on Blowers and took him to the hospital. He later died from his injuries.
The investigation continues. The Wisconsin DOJ says investigators will turn over their investigative report to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation is done.
