DE PERE, Wis. (NBC 26) -- While some might be going stir-crazy during social isolation, others are itching to take their personal maintenance in to their own hands.

However, experts say that box dye and doing your own hair cuts are not a smart long term solution to temporary problems.

"We want everyone to think temporary," Dame Salon Spaowner Maggie Dame explains. "Because this is temporary, and we're all going to get through it together. So when you're trying to find a soution to cover the unwanted outgrowth, whether it be grey or another color, you want to think temporary."

Dame recommends powder-based color sprays for root touch ups because they do not damage your hair and wash out easily.

"They will leave your hair in the perfect condition for your next professional service," Dame says.

Think you can handle an at home hair cut? Think again. Most people compare office scissors to cutting shears, and there are more differences than tools alone between the hair salon and your kitchen table studio.

"Put the scissors down," Dame says. "This is a great time to get creative! Try the updo that you've always wanted to try but were a little nervous. Rock an awesome hat," Dame offers.

Baseball cap or fashion state, all are messy hair day staples that will cover any outgrown cut.

Dame tells teleworkers that this is a unique opportunity to test no-wash-days if you are a frequent washer.

"If you are worried about your color fading, if you don't wash it as much, that will greatly help," Dame says. Dry shampoo will keep style and texture lasting multiple days without a wash.

It's also a great time to try out new accessories and share your hair and beauty routine with kids at home. This added time together could be enhanced with extra bonding such as this; Dame says her stylists have taken advantage of this.

Whatever you opt for, salon veterans push clients to opt for temporary, washable solutions in this time of forcibly low maintenance so they aren't paying the price for messy mistakes the next time they're in the chair.
