Authorities say a 10-year-old boy died at the scene of a crash involving a school bus. The child was not on the bus, but in one of the other vehicles involved in the crash. There were no children on the bus itself.
At around 8 a.m. Thursday, officials say a pickup going westbound on Highway 15 in Ellington was stopped for traffic. A car, with the child inside, collided with the pickup and then hit an eastbound school bus.
The 10-year-old child killed in the crash was an elementary student on his way to school. The person driving the vehicle where the child was a passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The only person on the school bus was the driver, who was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The child who died attended Hortonville Elementary School. District Administrator Todd Timm say counseling services are being made available at the school.
