GREEN BAY (NBC26) — Green Bay fire crews battled a fire Saturday evening in the garage of an apartment complex on Western Avenue.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department said two residents were treated on scene for breathing problems, and one was then transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The fire began as a vehicle fire and spread throughout the 16-unit detached garage, burning at least four vehicles inside.
The garage collapsed, and Green Bay Metro Fire estimates the total cost of the damage to be $450,000.
Witnesses at the scene told NBC 26 crews they were shocked by the size of the flames.
"I looked over to my left, and just see these big flames," said Salvador Victoria, who lives just blocks away. "Huge flames in these garages, and I was just like 'wow.'"
Six residential buildings also received exterior exposure damage from high heat.
The fire department said the fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes, but crews are remaining on scene to monitor the structure as fire marshals investigate the scene, as of 10:15 p.m. Saturday.
