Flooding prompts evacuations in Manitowoc County

MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wis. — Due to an ice jam near the Shoto Dam in the West Twin River, evacuations are underway in Manitowoc County.

The Manitowoc County Emergency Services Division has activated the Manitowoc County Emergency Operations Center. An incident command post has been established at the Manitowoc County Highway Department,

According to a news release, the primary area of concern is West Twin River at and north of the Shoto Dam where the dam has been inundated by water over spillway. Ice continues to flow down river.

Emergency crews are performing water rescue of residents behind the ice jam, and otherwise evacuating residents.

People are advised to avoid the Shoto area due to flooded roads.

Evacuated residents have been instructed to go to the Manitowoc County Highway Department.
