In celebration of Halloween, Cold Stone Creamery’s iconic Cake Batter Ice Cream flavor is getting a spooky makeover.
The Treat or Treat Creation features jet-black ice cream filled with a number of Halloween treats, including Halloween Oreos, Kit Kats and M&Ms. They’re calling the black ice cream Boo Batter, but if you try a taste, you’ll realize it’s actually Cake Batter Ice Cream in disguise.
Unlike certain other black ice creams, which get their dark hues from activated charcoal mixed into the icy dessert, Cold Stone’s Boo Batter is simply regular ice cream that has been dyed black to make it more ghoulish-looking for Halloween.
On Sept. 27, Cold Stone teased the spooky sweet stuff on Instagram:
“Something spooky is coming … can you guess what it might be?” read the caption.
You can get your Treat or Treat Creation served in a black or orange waffle cone or bowl to fully complete the Halloween theme, as shown in this snap posted to the brand’s Instagram on Oct. 1:
“BOO! We promised something spooky was coming … introducing our new Boo Batter ice cream, we turned our delicious Cake Batter Ice Cream pitch black for October only!” read the caption.
“Indulge in the nostalgia of your Halloween memories with the Treat or Treat Creation; it’s a spook-tacular way to get into the Halloween spirit!” Sara Schmillen, vice president of marketing for Kahala Brands, parent company of Cold Stone Creamery, said in a press release.
If Boo Batter is not your thing, the ice cream chain has also introduced two other limited-edition, fall flavors: Honey Cornbread & Blackberry Jam Ice Cream and Milk & Honey Graham Ice Cream. The fall flavors will be available until Oct. 29.
The company also introduced a new Reese’s Creation and Reese’s Shake with a new mix-in, Reese’s Peanut Butter Sauce, all of which are permanent additions to Cold Stone’s sweet menu.
