MILWAUKEE — Eleven people were injured after an escalator malfunctioned at American Family Field following the Brewers game Saturday.
Greg Braggs Jr. was leaving the game to go back home to Chicago when he got on that escalator.
"I got about halfway down the slope and the entire thing shook and it scared everyone," Braggs Jr. recalled.
"Two seconds later, the entire thing gave way and started rolling downhill like a roller coaster."
The Milwaukee Brewers posted an update on their X page, stating that the escalator moving fans from the terrace to the loge level malfunctioned, "resulting in an increased downward speed."
The statement said that 11 people were injured.
"The people at the bottom started piling up on top of each other. All I could think about is this lady in front of me ending up in the pile and how I could throw her out of the way," Braggs Jr said.
Five of those people were treated at the stadium and the other six were taken to local hospitals to treat non-life-threatening injuries.
There was a physician at the stadium and EMS arrived immediately, according to the post.
Braggs Jr. said he hurt his knee badly and was in shock, but is grateful it wasn't worse.
"Your expectation is an escalator is not going to break on you. You trust the stadium is putting us in good hands and we’ll be safe. That didn’t happen today," Braggs Jr. said.
