Seven combat-disabled and wounded veterans, all of whom are Purple Heart recipients, were honored at Monday night's game between the Packers and Lions by the Green Bay Packers and WPS Health Solutions.

All seven served in the U.S. Marine Corps or U.S. Navy. They are:

  • Lance Corporal Matthew Solberg from Kimberly, Wis.
  • Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian Safford from Eagle River, Wis.
  • Corporal Jon Steinborn from Madison, Wis.
  • Corporal Michael Skaar from Marshall, Wis.
  • Lance Corporal Jake Janes from Evansville, Wis.
  • Sgt. Christopher Horsely from New Orleans, La.
  • 1st Sgt. Timothy La Sage from Johnson Creek, Wis.

The veterans served more than 51 combined years of military service, which included deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Each home game, the Packers and WPS Health Solutions recognize a family with a member who is on active duty through Operation Fan Mail. The family is recognized on the field during pregame activities.

To choose families, the Packers and WPS Health Solutions are asking interested families, or friends of eligible families, to submit an essay that is 500 words or less on why a fan should be saluted.

You can send essays to: Operation Fan Mail, P.O. Box 10628, Green Bay, Wisconsin, 54307-0628. Essays can also be submitted online here.
