A suspicious suitcase left in an area in Green Bay forced several businesses to be evacuated Thursday afternoon, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
Around 12:40 p.m., a suitcase was found in the area of 222 S. Baird Street, Green Bay Police said.
The Brown County Bomb Squad was called to the scene to examine the package, according to police. Area businesses were evacuated as a precaution.
A neighbor then called 911 to say the suitcase was hers and she left it out on the street for anyone who wanted it for free.
The suitcase was empty and the scene was cleared, police said.
