The suspicious bottle found on Northeast Wisconsin Technical College's campus that caused building evacuations Tuesday was a discarded phone wire splice bottle, the college said Thursday.
It is a weather proof wire splicing method for outdoor applications that is used by utility technicians in their daily work, NWTC said.
“We are pleased that the event on Tuesday was resolved without incident,” said NWTC President Dr. Jeff Rafn. “We are also pleased to know everyone on campus took the temporary precautions seriously and it was a good test of the College’s emergency operations.”
Two campus buildings were evacuated as police investigated the bottle. The Brown-Outagamie County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded but determined it was not an explosive.
Campus activities returned to normal after a few hours Tuesday.
