Students and senior citizen pen pals meet in Bellevue

Posted

In today's technological world, it's rare to send or receive a handwritten letter.

However, students from McAuliffe Elementary in the Green Bay Area School District and senior citizens from Curative Connections have been writing letters back and forth this year.

On Tuesday, the students and seniors met at McAuliffe in Bellevue for a special day that included a school tour, sharing lunch and enjoying time outside for recess.

"The way the whole thing turned out is bigger and better than any of us thought it would be," said Paula Abts, activity leader for Curative Connections. "The kind of neat thing is that the kids and the adults feel like there isn't anything different between them. They're kind of all the same."

The kids also got the chance to improve their penmanship by writing the handwritten letters.
