The Green Bay mayor's race has its first candidate. Democratic State Representative Eric Genrich announced Monday that he will not seek re-election to the state assembly and instead he will run for the city's top position. He said he's already served the people of Green Bay for the past six years in the legislature, and he looks forward to continuing that service in a different role.

"In the state assembly, you're one of 99 individuals so it can be challenging to accomplish everything you'd like to do. So as an executive in a mayoral position, I feel like the opportunity to do a greater good is enhanced, so looking forward to that to working with council to be productive," said Genrich.

The election to replace current mayor Jim Schmitt is in April 2019. Schmitt announced last November that he would not seek re-election after serving as mayor since 2003.
