Snow helping Hunters this season

Posted

Deer hunters are anticipating another hunting season this weekend and as hunters prepare they are especially excited for the change in weather and how it can affect what they catch this year.

Winter weather is back and hunters couldn't be more excited for the cold and snow. Joe Klug has his favorite hunting spot in Pulaski and every year he hopes for snow.

"It makes it easier to track a deer. Able to see the trail and where they're going after the fact." Joe klug, Pulaski.

"Well it makes it easier to see the deer otherwise they kind of blend in but with the white snow it's a lot easier to see them." Tim Smith, Door County:

Wildlife experts at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say deer react to weather patterns."That first snow it kind of throws deer off too because all of a sudden their world just changed especially for the deer that have been through it their first time" says Jeff Pritzl, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Hunters should also take into consideration wind speed and direction.

Wind can spread the scent of a hunter. "Deer are more apt to lay low and they feel less comfortable  not being able to hear what's going on in their surroundings" says Pritzl.

No matter the weather.. Klug is ready to hit the woods "Its more about sitting out there enjoying myself and enjoying nature” says Klug.

"Every trophy doesn't come in the form of a huge buck it's really about the memory and the experience" says Pritzl.

Which keeps hunters coming back year after year. The nine-day gun-deer hunt starts at sunrise on Saturday and runs through November 29th.
