A second northern black widow spider was found in Brown County, less than a mile from where the first was discovered in June.
This is only the second spider of this species ever reported in Brown County, according to UW-Green Bay professor Michael Draney.
Terry Lambert found the second northern black widow in New Franken. Draney is now studying the spider, which is still alive, at UWGB.
"I think they've been here for centuries, if not millenia, but they are usually pretty rare," said Draney. "But because of a mild winter, early spring, wet, early summer, it's probably just really good conditions for this species so they're thriving."
There's little concern to the public and these spiders are reluctant to bite, Draney explained.
However, he said don't touch one if you see it.
