In just over two weeks six armed robberies have taken place at four gas stations in the fox cities. The most recent happened Friday morning at a Citgo gas station in Neenah. Now police are trying to determine if there's a link between the robberies.
Police don't know whether the robberies happening within just miles of one another are done by a group of people, or just one suspect. But they do know the crimes haven't slowed down and that’s the concern.
At the Citgo gas station on Neenah's north side is where the latest convenience store was targeted.
"I thought oh no not again," says Gloria Dunlop of Neenah. She lives right across the street from the latest robbery.
"We've had six within the last just over two weeks and two of those locations we're hit twice," adds Chief of Neenah’s Police force Kevin Wilkinson.
Each time so far, a man with a gun has gotten away with cash.
"If some cash gets stolen that can be replaced. We just don't want anyone to get hurt," says Chief Wilkinson.
Friday morning’s robbery though, wasn't just news for Gloria Dunlop who lives across the street from Citgo. She frequents the gas station to visit her friends who work there.
"I go over there just to talk to the girls ever so often. I know Linda and Chris," says Dunlop.
When the robbery occurred Friday morning and a man pointed a gun at her friend that made the crime much more real for her.
"It's got to be scary for her. I feel really bad for her," says Dunlop.
Each armed robbery suspect has been described as a black man who covers his face with clothing. Police aren't sure if it's one person or a group of people committing the crime. But they believe it likely has ties to drug addiction and needing to appease the habit. One thing’s for certain though, the robberies continue to disturb those most closely connected to the crimes.
"It seems like they're getting braver. That many times? Are they finding it easier to hit them or what,” asks Dunlop.
While police have leads and the tips continue to come in, no arrests have been made yet. The Neenah Police Chief adding that in each situation, the gas station attendant does the right thing by handing over the money. Right now police say they're looking through surveillance video to help identify their suspect or suspects.
