On Saturday he was on his way to the EAA Air Venture with his 9-year-old grandson when he started to experience mechanical issues.
"Coming over the lake,I lost power in the engine, not sure why at this point," said Newell.
While he was in the air, he didn't know what to do but stayed strong.
"I kept calm. I had my grandson with me, so I had to to keep him calm," said Newell.
He was able to get help from someone through the plane's radio and found a place to land.
"I didn't have enough power to make it to the airport and tried to find a good field, and this corn field was the best I could find," said Newell.
Green Lake County deputies were able to to help them too. Tim says he may not get to showcase his plan at the EAA Air Venture, but he says all that matters is him and his grandson weren't hurt.
His next mission is to get his plane up and running.
