Oshkosh Police continued to search for a suspect Monday after two reports of a home intruder in a neighborhood near the UW Oshkosh campus over the weekend.
One incident involved a man allegedly standing over a woman sleeping, while another is being labeled an attempted sexual assault after a woman woke up to a man lying on top of her, police said.
The man in both cases is described as white and around 5'10" with a muscular build.
The attempted sexual assault happened on the 600 block of Scott Avenue early Saturday morning. The woman woke up to the man on top of her, but was able to fight him off before he ran out of the house, police said.
Just a few hours later, a woman reported a man inside her house on Wisconsin Street. She told police she woke up around 5:30 a.m. and found the man standing next to her bed, according to officers.
Students told NBC26 they're shaken up by the reports.
"It's definitely scary because walking around at night, coming home from classes, I have a night class that ends at 9:30," said Carly Burns, a UW Oshkosh student. "Or on the weekends coming home from the bar, it's a little nerve-wracking."
There were no signs of forced entry in either case, and so police are reminding people to lock their doors.
"We lock all of our windows, all of our doors," Burns said. "I was home alone this weekend, so that was a little scary, but we take precautions."
