14 people were forced out of their homes Monday after an apartment fire in Ripon.

Fire crews were called to the Valley Crest Apartments around 5 p.m. The fire started on a second floor balcony of the two-story apartment building, according to Fire Chief Tim Saul.

When crews arrived, they saw flames on the roof and heavy smoke, Saul said.

One person was treated on scene and transported. Their condition is unknown, Saul said. No firefighters were injured.

There was significant fire damage to the building. The fire is not considered suspicious but is under investigation, Saul explained.

The American Red Cross is assisting the 14 people displaced.

14 fire departments responded and helped put out the fire.
