The White House has received a pair of new petitions calling for thje federal department of justice to investigate the murder of Teresa Halbach and the convictions of Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey.
Both can be found on the whitehouse.gov website.
The first calls for the DOJ to review the legal institutions involved in the conviction appeals concerning Steven Avery.
The second asks the DOJ to review the Sheriff's departments in Manitowoc and Calumet Counities.
Each was sparked by the Netflix Series "Making a Murder" detailing the investigation and trial.
a previous petition asking President Obama to pardon Avery and Dassey was denied.
The official explanation reads, "Since Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are both state prisoners, the President cannot pardon them. A pardon in this case would need to be issued at the state level by the appropriate authorities."
Governor Scott Walker has already said he will not pardon Steven Avery or Brendan Dassey.
