Naked man prompts multiple 911 calls

Posted

The Appleton Police Department is investigating a "suspicious incident" that happened early this morning along Highway 441.

Just before 7 AM, the department was receiving numerous calls reporting there was a naked man walking in the northbound lanes of the highway.

While officers were en route, more information came in saying the man was trying to pull a woman out of her car.

Officers found the naked man near the off-ramp to E. College Avenue and determined he was experiencing "excited delirium," a state of extreme mental and physiological excitement.

Before being arrested, the man began to yell at officers to shoot him. An officer used a taser on the individual and he was handcuffed while still resisting officers.

Paramedics transported the man to a hospital for treatment where he currently remains. The man is a resident of Neenah.

During the incident, a 22 year old Appleton woman received minor injuries from the man. She had stopped her vehicle to make a 911 call after seeing the naked man when he approached her vehicle, opened the driver's side door and started to punch her. She did not require medical attention.

Multiple departments responded to the call and expect several charges to be placed against the man.

If you have any additional information, you should contact Sergeant Fischer at 920-832-5500.
