A Medford man chose a bad place to hide when running from Appleton Police Tuesday morning.
Around 8:15 a.m. on September 5, police saw a disturbance at a parking lot near N. Richmond Street and W. Wisconsin Ave. When the officer drove into the lot, a man ran away, climbed a fence and disappeared in a neighborhood.
Officers then learned the man had a felony warrant for his arrest.
Turns out, the man was hiding in a recycling dumpster.
Shortly after he ran from police, a City of Appleton employee called officers to let them know he had emptied the dumpster into his recycling truck and then heard the man yelling, police said.
The employee stopped the truck, only to have the man get out and run away again.
Officers searched the area and found the man in a nearby yard with a serious head injury. Police believe it happened when he was dumped from the recycling dumpster into the truck, officers said.
Police are guarding the 36-year-old man in the hospital. He will be sent to Outagamie County Jail once he's released from the hospital, according to police.
In addition to his felony warrant, Appleton Police are asking he be charged with obstructing.
Additional charges could also be requested because an Appleton officer was injured while trying to arrest the man.
