MANITOWOC — Manitowoc Police are working to identify a middle-aged man who was found dead behind a business on Thursday.

Around 1:50 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Maritime Drive for reports of a man who was found dead in an isolated area behind a business, concealed by vegetation.

Police say the man, described as white and in his 50s, was found wearing a dark brown leather jacket, a blue t-shirt, 36”x32” blue jeans, white socks and size 10 white shoes. Police say the man was less than 6 feet tall, and had possibly a beard or goatee and graying hair.

The man did not have any identification on him. Police found two house style keys (ACE name brand) and approximately $80 in US currency.

Police say the coroner believes the man was likely lying in that spot where he was found for about 3 weeks. Police say the extreme decomposition of the body made it difficult to find any unique, identifying markings.

Police also say they have been unable to find any reports of missing or homeless people that match the man's description.

A preliminary investigation revealed the man did not have any broken or fractured bones or any other injuries, police say. Investigators are waiting on analysis of DNA, fingerprints and dental records for more information.

Investigators are also waiting for a toxicology report to determine the cause of death.

If this description matches any missing adults or homeless individuals that the public is aware of, you are encouraged to call the Manitowoc Police Department Shift Commander at 920-686-6551. You may also contact Crime Stoppers at 920-683-4466. Anyone with information may remain anonymous.
