An auto body shop is a total loss in Fond du Lac after an early morning fire.
Fond du Lac Fire Department leaders say the call for a car on fire came in around 6:24 Saturday morning. When fire crews arrived the fire had spread from the vehicle outside to the auto body shop, known as Hiram's Auto Repair at 68 John St in Fond du Lac.
The fire had spread into the eaves and roof of the building and Fond du Lac fire crews were not able to enter to douse the flames. Firefighters had to take a defensive approach and fight the fire from the outside. The blaze was so big, several other fire agencies had to be called in to help.
Fire crews also called in the HAZMAT team to place booms in the river to prevent run-off from the fire getting into the Fond du Lac river system.
Hiram's Auto Repair is being considered a total loss. That fire took several hours to put out. Crews cleared the scene at 11:00 Saturday morning.
Fond du Lac Fire Department is working to determine the cause of that fire.
