A Green Bay man is accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl who considered him a family friend.

Samuel Cannon, 30, was charged with abduction of a child and first degree sexual assault of a child by use of threat on July 12 for a March incident involving the girl.

On March 21, the teen did not return home from softball practice, according to a criminal complaint. Because she had no history of running away and her friends and coaches had not seen her, her parents called the police.

Her parents believed she was with family friend Samuel Cannon, who is also a convicted sex offender, the complaint said.

Two days later, on March 24, deputies found the teen during a traffic stop in Oconto County and she returned to her parents.

The teen told police she wanted to get away from parents for a few days and asked Cannon if he would help her, the criminal complaint said. The teen called Cannon her "go-to person."

After picking her up by the Fisk Pool, Cannon allegedly took her to a house on the Oneida Reservation.

During her initial interview with police, the teen told officers nothing happened between her and Cannon. However, she had another interview with officers on April 5. At that time, she told officers Cannon forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her when she ran away, the criminal complaint said.

She first tried to get Cannon off her, but he wouldn't stop so she gave up and stopped fighting, she told police.

She said the assault happened the first night she ran away, court documents show.

A nurse conducted a sexual assault exam on the victim immediately after she was found in March. The exam found Cannon's DNA in the teen, the criminal complaint said.

Cannon is being held on a $40,000 cash bond and cannot have contact with the victim or her family.

NBC26 is not naming the teen involved because she is a juvenile sexual assault victim.
