Gas prices rise ahead of Thanksgiving travel

Posted

Drivers will want to fill up their gas tanks sooner rather than later if they're heading out of town this Thanksgiving.

Gas prices have gone up over the past few weeks.According to AAA, the price for a gallon of gas has risen nine cents since November 1.

The national average is around $2.54 a gallon.

The best time to travel is Thanksgiving Day and the Saturday after, according to experts.

"You really need to pay attention, plan your trip, don't drive distracted and check on Wisconsin 511 you know we have a state-wide system of accident reporting for a reason," said Mark Kantola with the Wisconsin DOT.

Drivers should also check their cars before traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA said it expects to service more than 300,000 drivers over the holiday weekend.
