With help from the community, the Fox Crossing Police Department is forming a K9 unit.
The department has been without a K9 program for nearly two decades.
A citizen committee is being formed to raise money to support the program, which was recently approved. The unit will help locate lost/fleeing individuals, fight the increasing drug problem, protect officers and educate the public.
The separate committee will work to raise money for the unit through grants and donations.
This past week, the Fox Crossing Police Department received the Ryan Copeland Memorial Grant from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handlers Association. The grant goes to a department to help them with the high costs of starting and maintaining a K9 program.
Fox Crossing Police are now looking for anyone interested in serving on the committee. If you or someone you know is interested, contact Officer Jason Weber or Lt. Jason Severson.
