Five people were arrested and several people were sent to the hospital Monday after a fight in Appleton involving brass knuckles, baseball bats, crowbars and pepper spray, police said.
Just before 6 p.m. on September 25, officers were called to the 3300 block of E. Edgemere Drive for the report of a large disturbance.
Witnesses told officers there were multiple people fighting.
Appleton Police determined the main people involved in the fight had ongoing conflicts and the fight was preplanned.
“These two groups really don't like each other for whatever reason that is,” said Sgt. David Lund with Appleton Police. “And they decided this was how they're going to settle their differences last night, which is obviously not an option that we would ever suggest to anyone.”
Weapons were brought to the fight and were found in a vehicle at the scene, police said.
A 17-year-old girl and 49-year-old man were both injured during the fight, according to officers. They were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“Another one of those situations that are very dangerous for everyone involved, officers and obviously the people there,” said Sgt. Lund.
The fight happened at an apartment complex. Since May of 2017, the property owner has been working with police to lawfully remove tenants who have been involved in criminal activity.
Four women and one man were arrested after the fight on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to battery. NBC26 is not releasing their names until they've been formally charged.
