More than 200,000 people will head to downtown Appleton this weekend to enjoy the 36th annual Octoberfestevent, filled with music, food and family activities.
The weekend's festivities begin with License to Cruise on Friday, September 29. This year's event will include a special collection of classic Ford models that people can see at the Fox Cities P.A.C. in downtown Appleton.
License to Cruise begins Friday at 6 p.m. and features more than 400 classic cars.
The Octoberfest opening ceremony takes place Saturday, September 30 at 9 a.m. at the Houdini Plaza stage with the traditional opening keg tap, an acknowledgement of the ritual Spaten keg beer tapping that takes place every year at Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.
All six Octoberfest stages will have music starting at 9 a.m., organizers said.
Valley Transit will offer 25 cent fares on regular routes beginning at 3:45 p.m. Friday and running through Saturday.
There will also be a park and ride service on Saturday at Fox Valley Rechnical College, Appleton East High School, Goodwill Industries and Valley Packaging.
The cab corral and Uber pickup area will be on Washington Street from Oneida Street west to Appleton Street.
Organizers are offering complimentary O'Doul's to anyone who chooses to be a designated driver Saturday.
